The Deadly Snakes have to be one of the most hilariously dysfunctional bands I know / have ever seen play live. Tonight’s show was a classic implosion played out before a crowd. It all started with Max smoking on stage which is a sure shot way to piss off the club given that smoking in bars is banned. Everyone in the band was shooting him dirty looks for his antics, and he took forever to set up which meant the band was just standing there on the stage looking like idiots. They finally played and the set was mired with technical difficulties. Best part was Max tap-dancing on his organ and the keys breaking off and flying everywhere which meant it was kinda useless and meant he was playing wrong notes. Anyway, they were great nonetheless but stormed off the stage after their set. The kicker was that Max didn’t leave- he sat behind the organ and played an intro lick over and over again from one of their other songs to coax the band to play an encore. Andre was just out of sight on stage left yelling his brains out at Max- saying that he didn’t want to play an encore but Max kept playing the organ and the crowd started clapping for an encore. The band then stormed back on stage and angrily played an encore. I’ve never seen a whole band come back on stage totally fucking pissed off and be forced to play an encore.”
